தமிழ் மறவன் பட்டாம் பூச்சி இனத்தை தமிழ்நாடு அரசு சின்னமாக அறிவித்து அரசாணை வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. பல்வேறு கட்ட ஆராய்ச்சிகளுக்கு பிறகு ஆய்வு குழு தமிழ் மறவன் பட்டாம் பூச்சியை தமிழக அரசு சின்னத்திற்கு பரிந்துரை செய்துள்ளது.



ஸ்ரீவில்லிபுத்தூர் கோவில் கோபுரம், பனைமரம், மரகதப்புறா, வரையாடு, செங்காந்தள் மலர், பலாப்பழம், பரதநாட்டியம், கபடி உள்ளிட்டவை அரசின் சின்னங்களாக உள்ளன.இந்நிலையில் பட்டாம்பூச்சிகளுக்கு தமிழக அரசின் சின்னம் அந்தஸ்து கொடுப்பது தொடர்பாக பல்வேறு பட்டாம்பூச்சிகளை 10 பேர் குழு ஆய்வு செய்தது.



இந்த குழுவினர் தமிழ் மறவன், தமிழ் லேஸ்விங் ஆகிய பட்டாம்பூச்சி இனங்கள் தொடர்பாக பல்வேறு கட்ட ஆய்வுகளை மேற்கொண்டனர். இதில் தமிழ் மறவன் பட்டாம்பூச்சி இனம் ஏராளமான சிறப்பம்சங்கள் கொண்டது தெரியவந்தது.



இந்நிலையில் முதன்மை தலைமை வனப் பாதுகாவலர், தலைமை வன உயிரின பாதுகாவலர் பரிந்துரையை ஏற்று தமிழக அரசின் சின்னங்களில் ஒன்றாக தமிழ் மறவன் பட்டாம் பூச்சியை தமிழ்நாடு அரசு சின்னமாக அறிவித்து அரசாணை வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.



தமிழ் மறவன் பட்டாம் பூச்சி சிறப்புகள்:



மேற்குத் தொடர்ச்சி மலைத் தொடர்களில் வசிக்கும் 32 பட்டாம்பூச்சி இனங்களில் ஒன்றான தமிழ் மறவன்’ பட்டாம்பூச்சி இனம் கூட்டமாக வசிக்கும் பழக்கம் உடையது. இநத் பட்டாம்பூச்சி ஒரு சில இடங்களில் மட்டுமே வசித்து வருகிறது.



கூட்டமாகத் தான் வேறு இடங்களுக்குச் செல்லும். இதன் நிறமானது கவனிக்க தக்க ஒன்று.டர் பழுப்பு நிற வெளிப்புற இறகுகள் மற்றும் ஆரஞ்சு வண்ணம். இந்த தமிழ் மறவன் பட்டாம்பூச்சிக்கு அர்த்தம் போர் வீரன் என்பதாகும்.



இந்திய அளவில் பட்டாம்பூச்சிக்கு மாநில அளவிலான அங்கீகரிக்கும் 5வது மாநிலமாக தமிழ்நாடு விளங்குகிறது. முன்னதாக மகாராஷ்டிரா(ப்ளூ மோர்மன்), உத்தரகாண்ட்(காமன் பீகாக்), கர்நாடகா(சதர்ன் பேர்டு விங்ஸ்), கேரளா(மலபார் பேண்டட் பீகாக்) ஆகியவை பட்டாம்பூச்சிக்கு மாநில அந்தஸ்து அளித்துள்ளன.Tamil Nadu has a total of 32 species of butterflies endemic to the state. With the latest policy initiative, it has become the fifth India state after Maharashtra (Blue Mormon), Uttarakhand (Common peacock), Karnataka (Southern birdwings) and Kerala (Malabar banded peacock) to bestow a state emblem status to one of its colourful insects. Incidentally, both southern birdwings, which is the largest butterfly species found in India, and Malabar banded peacocks are, like the Tamil Yeoman, endemic to the Western Ghats as well.

Butterflies are great bio-indicators of an ecosystem as they are highly sensitive to environmental conditions such as temperature, sunlight, humidity and rainfall patterns. Their presence, patterns and migration assist in mapping the climatic health of a region and are they are perhaps the most studied insect group across the world.

The southern state of Tamil Nadu has recently declared Tamil Yeoman (Cirrochroa thais) as its state butterfly to symbolise its rich natural and cultural heritage, in a move aimed at boosting the conservation efforts of the attractive insects.



Locally known as Tamil Maravan meaning ‘Tamilian Warrior’, the canopy butterfly, usually sized between 60 and 75mm, belongs to the family of brush-footed butterflies or the Nymphalid.



This is the latest addition to Tamil Nadu’s existing symbols from the natural world – palmyra as the state tree, gloriosa lily as the state flower, emerald dove as the state bird, jackfruit as the state fruit and Nilgiri tahr as the state animal.Tamil Yeoman on stones.Tamilnadu
